I am a native of Phoenix, AZ and lifelong resident (with a brief 4-year detour for college in Oregon). My first passion, music, was inherited from show-biz parents. I've been a professional drummer for over 25 years, playing/touring with bands, working in many theater productions and contemporary church services.
When I first stepped onto a yoga mat at age 45, the only thing I was thinking about was the pain. My lower back, hips, legs and shoulders had stiffness, joint pain, and even sciatic nerve pain down both legs. It was the result of over ten years in the transportation/logistics field, with endless hours behind the wheel, and lots of heavy lifting.
I was skeptical about 'this yoga thing', but with some coaxing from a friend (and a dislike of medication) I gave it a try. Within 6 months most of the pain was gone, my range of motion was increasing rapidly, and my circulation was better than ever. Yoga had become the healthiest habit of my life!
And yet, something else was happening too. My attitude toward life began to change. I began to feel an energy, a feeling of empowerment that I had never felt before. My teachers were not just showing me how to 'fix' my body, they showed me how yoga postures can be a tool to expose self-defeating mental habits and eliminate them. This drove me to begin reading everything I could about yoga, and take more classes from a variety of experienced teachers. After just a few years of dedicated practice, every aspect of my life was profoundly improving, despite life's challenges. It wasn't long before I decided to become a teacher.
I graduated from the Yoga Pura Advanced Studies and Teacher Training program in 2012. After over 200 hours of certified teaching, I registered as an RYT-500 with Yoga Alliance in 2014.
My mission is to bring the body/mind benefits of this practice to those who may find yoga studios too intimidating, and conventional classes too advanced. The message is; start where you are, and work from there. YOU CAN DO IT!
My 'yoga journey' has allowed me to meet many wonderful people, and I look forward to meeting you!
